Top 5 Pieces of Contemporary Furniture
Homeowners seeking fresh interior designs for their home are always looking for a way to create uniqueness and personal style. This has pushed furniture designers to come up with ever more creative ways of reinventing classic pieces, ranging to anything from foot stools to electric radiators.

For music lovers, or bass lovers in particular, comes the Woofer Chair. Designed by Singapore based company Ministry of Design and created by Italian furniture company Saporiti Italia, the latter describe the chair as “creating a fully immersive soundscape”. Inspired by the form and function of a speaker the chair allows users to feel the music as well as hear it. Made of a combination of fibreglass and soft stretched canvas, the main section around the seating area is designed to be reformed and gives rise to endless aesthetics.

In terms of storage, it doesn’t get much better than this Stack 8 Drawer Veneer from New York based company Matter. Designed by Shay Alkay this really is a striking piece of furniture. The draws sit in a tower arrangement but can be pulled either way, which gives an incredibly interesting form to the set and really catches the eye. (source: mattermatters.com)

Designed by Alexandra Mazur-Knyazeva, an MA design graduate from Moscow, Essence of Flame is a series of bio fireplace inserts that transform a normal boring old fire into something that excites the imagination and is quite beautiful. The design aims to examine the connection people have with fire, by affecting the way the fire is shaped as opposed to simply framing it like a standard fire place. The result is very stylish and was in itself inspired by the movements and irregularities of fire.

Next up is this amazing Drift Bench designed by Amanda Levete, again for Matter. This piece was inspired by a piece of driftwood apparently, which must have been an incredible find, as the bench is stunning and has an equally stunning price tag. However, with its smooth lines and gloss finish it would create a beautiful focal point in any room. (source: mattermatters.com)

Finally, here is a lamp shade from Aminimal Studio called the Aiguille, which translates to “needle” in French. You can see why it has that name with sharp geometric lines and patterns which project an amazing texture onto the wall when lit. It was designed by Svetlana Blum Briscilla and John Briscilla, the creative minds behind the Aminimal Studio in New York.
